Canada, I Fear For Your Future!
I haven't given much thought to the upcoming federal election until only two weeks ago. I already know I'm voting for the party who will fight for my core beliefs. However, polls indicate a win is in reach for the right-wing Conservatives. Oh No!
Suffice to say, I now fear for the future of Canadians.
This only hit home when I sat down with my mom two weekends ago at the diningroom table. Somehow the conversation turned into 'who am I voting for?'. I gave my answer.
"What?!?! They stand against everything I believe in!"
My mom replied with great disgust. This should not be surprising. But I thought my mom was becoming a more liberal thinker. I guess I was wrong. But then again, whatever the church dictates, she follows.
I didn't argue because arguing means arguing religion & tradition altogether. I was not mentally and emotionally prepared for a lengthy and exhaustive discussion that will lead nowhere. Anyways, I avoid talking about politics whenever possible. It's such a touchy subject for everyone. I deal with enough politics at work. I don't want to have to deal with more outside of it.

This past weekend, I came out to support a friend who organized a local benefit carabet. The show was more fun than I thought it was going to be. The most memorable has to be the special guest host who happens to be the wife of a major party candidate.
She was quite the lively host, maybe a little too "happy". This woman is usually an eloquent public speaker, even on national tv. But she seems off that night. As the show progressed, and as she continued to introduce different performers, it suddenly occurred to me that she is drunk.
She eventually became obnoxious and just plain embarassing on stage. Still, it was funny to watch, but definitely not the kind of publicity her political party needs right now. After intermission, we had a different host. I guess her handlers dragged her out just in case she causes further embarassment.
Perhaps the cabaret organizers took out this lady to an early dinner and unintentionally given her an unending supply of wine? Poor girl. Even I can't turn down free booze.
At any rate, election fever is only about to get hotter as the debate commences tonight in Francais and then tomorrow in English. Looking forward to it.
